Tom Brady Press Conference After Losing AFC Champioship Game

As you read in my previous blog Just My Opinion, I was very critical of Tom Brady's performance in the AFC champioship game loss two Sunday's ago.  I feel that if he had just one of his usual above par games then most likely the Patriots would be playing in the Superbowl this Sunday. This is just one very obsessed Boston sports fans opinion on the state of Boston's professional sports teams as of today 1/30/13.
Patriots
Unless you are not a professional football fan or have been living under a rock for a couple weeks the New England patriots season ended ubruptly a couple sundays ago.  Losing to the Baltimore Ravens at their home field Gillette Stadium as a 8 or 9 point favorite.  Who is to blame for the loss? Look no further then Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Brady looked like an average quarterback not the sure bet first ballot hall of famer that he will be.  He generally gets a pass for his bad play because of his resume but he's not getting one from me! The head coach Bill Belichick is equally to blame. The patriots had a 3 point lead at halftime and made no adjustments or changes to the game plan, as most coach's do at halftime! He had to have known that the Ravens coaching staff was making adjustments. End result, the Patriots are watching the Superbowl from home and you can blame Bill Belichick and Tom brady for it.
Bruins
The Bruins have jumped out of the gate quickly winning five games and losing just one in an overtime shootout. They have garnered 11 out of a possible 12 points and seem like the team to beat in the eastern conference. This new teenager Dougie Hamilton looks like the real deal and with  most of the same players from the Bruins team that won the Stanley Cup two years ago, still on this years team, (minus Tim Thomas) I see no reason why this team can not make another run at the Stanley Cup this year. That is ofcourse if they stay healthy.
Celtics
The Boston Celtics have been a enigma this year so far. Winning big games like the one on Sunday versus the defending Champions Miami Heat.  The have also lost many times to sub par teams with losing records.  They won five games in a row a couple weeks ago and then inexplicably they go and lose six in a row.  This team has no energy, youthful exuberance cohesion... whatever it is they do not look like a contender to even make the playoffs nevermind win a Championship.  Couple that with the news that their starting all star point guard Rjon Rondo is out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL, I think it's time to start rebuilding for the future if your the Boston Celtic's  Management.

Effect of the Internet on the Media

     The Internet has had an enormous effect on the media.  The technological advancements that we as a society have seen in just the last five to ten years are incredible.  Computers, laptops, PDA's, smart phones, Ipads etc all are means by which most people obtain their news.  Gone are the days of waiting for the six O'clock news or the morning newspaper. The Internet gives us real time breaking news literally seconds after it happens.  Newspapers and television news programs are still a part of our culture, but have certainly taken a back seat to the Internet in terms of how people get their news especially with the younger computer generation.  Most media outlets in fact utilize computers and the Internet during their telecasts in order to be up to date on breaking  news and information.
Books and movies are also effected by the Internet. People no longer have to go to the movie theatre or buy books at the book store. They can buy or  rent these things on line and  can access them at the click of a mouse. The Internet has changed the way people live. It has made life for many so convenient that they literally don't have to leave their homes.  You can grocery shop online, get all the entertainment you need through your computer. You can do all your banking  online. Many people even work from home utilizing their computer and the Internet.  If you ask me The Internet has made human beings lazy.  I am just as guilty as anyone.  I pretty much use the Internet for all the things I have just mentioned.  Why not utilize the convenience that the Internet provides.      

Impact of the internet in our society

     The Internet and World Wide Web has an enormous impact not just in our society, but globally.  It is hard to believe that 23 years ago when I was giving my first run at college a try there was no such thing as the internet.  When I was in high school back in 1987 through 1989, we used typewriters or word processors ( if you were lucky) to write papers.  We had to go to the library and research using books, or magazines or god forbid encyclopedia's. Today students have it a lot easier. Through the internet, information is just a Google search away.
     Only a short time ago before the internet was invented those of us who are old enough, had to get our news, weather and sports either at night on the six o'clock or eleven o'clock news, or in the newspaper the next day.  The Internet has changed the way people get their news.  It doesn't matter where in the world a news worthy story happens, it is instantly available to see on the Internet.  The ability to inform people instantly on what is happening is a valuable tool that the internet provides.
     In the world of entertainment and sports, televisions use to be the only means to watch a certain program, movie or sporting event. Today with the Internet, all of those things are on demand and a finger click away.  It is hard to fathom just how quickly, relatively speaking the technological advancements with regard to computers, cell phones etc.. have come.  All luxuries we take for granted now but that many of us did not have growing up.
     There are countless things that one can do on the Internet.  To sit here and try to explain all of them would be an exercise and futility.  If you ask me it has to be one of  if not the best thing ever invented. That is besides football of course!

Introduction

     Hello,  My name is Richard Green and I am a part time continuing education student at Umass Lowell.  I have been taking one class a semester since 2009 working towards my goal of graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.  I have four more classes to earn my degree. I chose to take this course because it is a requirement for my major but also because I am not the most computer savy person. I am hoping that I do not get too confused with the class assignments and I am able to learn from this course and apply it to everyday life  I'm willing to bet that I am one of if not the oldest student in this online class and have the distinct honor of being alive half my life without computerss or the internet. I currently work as a police officer in the City of Melrose Ma. on the 4pm to 12am shift.   I have been employed there for approximately five and a half years but have been in the law enforcement field for close to thirteen years.  I previously worked at the Middlesex Sheriff's office performing many different functions at that job. I am 41 years old and am married with two sons ages 7 and 4. So between work, family and school I pretty much have five minutes a day of down time...  This course will be challenging for me given my busy work, family and school schedule and my relative inexperience with most of the things this class calls for.
